Product Categories & Families

Evrykit uses two levels of product classification:

Level Name Purpose
1 โ€” Top level Product Family Broad grouping for reporting (e.g. Consumer Electronics)
2 โ€” Operational Product Category Specific grouping with optional parent/child hierarchy (e.g. Smartphones โ†’ Android)

A product has both a family and a category assigned.

Go to Inventory โ†’ Product Families.

Families are simple flat groups used for high-level reporting and filtering. Example families:

Go to Inventory โ†’ Categories.

Categories support a parent โ†’ child hierarchy, allowing you to build a tree:

Electronics

โ”‚   โ”œโ”€โ”€ Android
โ”‚   โ””โ”€โ”€ iOS
โ””โ”€โ”€ Laptops

Set the Parent Category field to nest a category under another.

Assigning to Products

When creating or editing a product:

Both are optional but strongly recommended for accurate stock reports and dashboard widgets.

Impact on Reports

The Stock by Category dashboard widget groups on-hand stock value by category. Categories and families also appear as filters in inventory reports.
