Product Categories & Families
Evrykit uses two levels of product classification:
| Level | Name | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 โ Top level | Product Family | Broad grouping for reporting (e.g. Consumer Electronics) |
| 2 โ Operational | Product Category | Specific grouping with optional parent/child hierarchy (e.g. Smartphones โ Android) |
A product has both a family and a category assigned.
Product Families
Go to Inventory โ Product Families.
Families are simple flat groups used for high-level reporting and filtering. Example families:
- Consumer Electronics
- Office Supplies
- Food & Beverages
- Spare Parts
Product Categories
Go to Inventory โ Categories.
Categories support a parent โ child hierarchy, allowing you to build a tree:
Electronics
โโโ Smartphones
โ โโโ Android
โ โโโ iOS
โโโ Laptops
Set the Parent Category field to nest a category under another.
Assigning to Products
When creating or editing a product:
- Family โ select from the family dropdown
- Category โ select the most specific category that applies
Both are optional but strongly recommended for accurate stock reports and dashboard widgets.
Impact on Reports
The Stock by Category dashboard widget groups on-hand stock value by category. Categories and families also appear as filters in inventory reports.
